Lead Commodity Trading Analyst

We are offering a position in our Data Analytics team as a Lead Commodity Trading Analyst where you will have the opportunity to work on a broad range of modelling challenges across energy markets. 

The job

Trading, Algorithmics and Analytics is a highly professionally operating trading department within Centrica Energy Trading.  Together with our colleagues in the United Kingdom and Singapore we are a 700-people-strong physical energy trader and the platform to trade across LNG, gas, power.  We connect producers and off takers in the wholesale energy markets.  

With a focus on data driven, profitable trading you will be working on enabling and enriching our cloud-based analytics platform. By cooperating with the desk analysts and our agile developers you will enable stable growth of our platform and its capabilities, making sure that data translates into strong PnL.  

You will bring your knowledge and experience in leading and pro-actively contributing to the build of supply and demand balances across multiple markets and tenors, enriching such models with predictive capabilities and establishing effective reporting and presentation of results. All of this within the scope of our digital platform. Both the team and the platform are both relatively young, so there is a good chance to contribute and put your mark on new developments. Supplementary to that, management of day-to-day platform operations, performance and model deployment while interfacing with relevant technology teams will also occur. 

The candidate

• Has a Master's degree or PhD in a numerate subject, such as Econometrics, Physics or Engineering or can demonstrate working with more complex models by experience. 

• Is experienced in financial and physical gas & power markets and their fundamentals, ideally through front-office roles or from large intelligence company.

• Understands the commodity trading workflow and the involved data. 

• Has Python development combined with data science pipeline design experience. 

• Can communicate complex information effectively and succinctly. 

• Has great interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to problem solving as part of a team. 

• Is familiar with agile project management. 

We are active in optimizing gas & power flows across Europe, by actively participating in established markets but also entering new markets. We are looking for an engaged person who will accelerate the digitalization of our analytics, supporting and guiding our traders.  You will bring experience from similar roles in the energy or trading industry, where you have worked as forecaster, data scientist, portfolio manager or something similar. Combined with active use of Python as scripting and programming language you can contribute from day one.
